Abstract:Objective To design a portable intelligent electric-stimulation acupuncture device for liver meridian acupoints, and to preliminarily verify its therapeutic effect on non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). Methods A total of 120 patients diagnosed with NAION in the Ophthalmology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanyang Medical College from January 2024 to December 2025 were prospectively included as the research subjects. They were randomly divided into control group, intervention group and instrument group, and 40 cases in each group. The control group received conventional western medicine treatment; the intervention group was additionally treated with traditional acupuncture combined with TCM on the basis of the control group; the instrument group received a portable intelligent electric-stimulation acupuncture device for liver meridian acupoints on the basis of the control group. After 3 courses of treatment, the best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), visual field mean deviation (MD), scores of TCM symptomes and total effective rate of the three groups were compared. Results The instrument group and the intervention group were significantly better than the control group in improving visual acuity, visual field MD and scores of TCM symptomes (all P< 0.05), and the efficacy of the two groups was equivalent (P>0.05). The total clinical effective rate of the instrument group was 87.50%, while that of the intervention group was 90.00%. Both were significantly higher than that of the control group (72.50%) (all P<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the overall effective rate between the instrument group and the intervention group (P> 0.05). Conclusion The portable intelligent electric-stimulation acupuncture device for liver meridian acupoints has good curative effect in the treatment of NAION, which is comparable to the traditional acupuncture combined with traditional Chinese medicine scheme, and has the advantages of simple operation and convenient home use.
